Every story contains a seed of connection

I believe storytelling is one of the most profound tools for peacebuilding. The narratives we hold shape who we are and how we move through the world, but they are incomplete; a window, not a house.

I write to share the view from my window…

And I facilitate story circles so that we can see the view from each other’s. In doing so, we start to build something bigger - a home, full of compassion and understanding.

I’ve been writing on substack since 2021. It began as a way for me to share what I was writing in grad school, with someone other than my professors. Now it’s a lot of things, but I’d say mainly a continued exploration of peace on both the micro and macro levels.

What are Story Circles?

Story Circles are groups of people, sitting around in circles, telling and listening to each other’s stories. Though storytelling has been around since the beginning of time, the form I’m facilitating was born out of the Civil Rights Movement. It was developed by the Free Southern Theatre (aka Junebug Productions), the theatrical wing of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, in collaboration with Appalachia’s Roadside Theatre, and it continues to be used all over the world.
